HÀ NỘI A workshop for young animation scriptwriters and enthusiasts will take place in Đà Lạt City in the central province of Lâm Đồng this September.

Anyone who wants to be part of the scriptwriting workshop, that could lead to their creations being turned into cartoons, can submit their entries from later this week.

This annual event is organised by the Centre for Supporting Creative Writing of Literature and Arts under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Vietnam Cinema Association and Việt Nam Cartoon Company (VCC).

It aims to create a script source for the production plan of VCC with the animation scriptwriting workshop looking to find new ideas to be turned into cartoons.

To become part of the workshop, applicants must submit detailed scripts or outlines to traisangtackbhh@gmail.com or to the headquarters of VCC on No 7 Trần Phú Street, Hà Nội, from April 2 to May 31.

According to screenwriter Phạm Thanh Hà, head of the Script Department at the VCC, the workshop enables collaborators of the company, especially young scriptwriters, to work directly with experienced editors during its two-week period.

Hà said: “They would receive assessment and suggestions from an art council that is composed of directors and artists who are taking over the key positions of VCC.

"This is an opportunity for the young scriptwriters to approach the animation production process and improve their expertise.

"It is also expected to strengthen and further expand the collaborators for the company while creating a more exciting atmosphere for the activities of Vietnamese animation.”

The submitted works can cover a wide range of topics including history, fairy tales, legends, science fiction, modernity and life skill education. Those with contents and topics aiming to celebrate many national holidays will be prioritised.

The eligible scripts should be new compositions or literary adaptations and the applicants must be the copyright owner.

The appraisal council will select works that meet the quality requirements. The list of 15 scriptwriters admitted to the workshop will be updated in August on Facebook page of VCC facebook.com/hoathinh.org.vn.

Explaining why Đà Lạt is chosen as the avenue for the animation event, Hà said that the mountainous city had the ideal environment and facilities.

She added: “The previous workshops have been held effectively in Đà Lạt as the rate of scripts put into production up to 70 and 80 per cent.

"Hopefully, this year’s workshop is also a successful one, contributing to a large source of scripts to Vietnamese animation in the near future.”  VNS
