Conservatory hosts international traditional music fest

HCM CITY — The International Traditional Music Festival opened at the HCM City Conservatory of Music on November 25 night.

The five-day festival attracts 58 musicians from Poland, Mongolia, South Korea, Taiwan, Malaysia and Viet Nam, who will present performances of traditional tune from their own homeland every night.

The opening concert titled Giai Dieu Que Huong (Homeland Melody) will feature artists of Traditional Music Department Ensemble from the conservatory.

These artists will play popular folk songs from southern, central and northern regions of Viet Nam, and symphonic compositions praising the homeland.

Tai tu music, a genre of traditional music unique to southern Viet Nam, will be featured.

The concert on November 26 will highlight traditional songs performed by musicians from Mongolia and South Korea, while the artists from Malaysia and Taiwan will give a performance on November 27.

Musicians from Poland will present a concert of their music on November 28.

On November 29, there will be a special gala with the participant of all 58 musicians.

Apart from concerts, these musicians will also give master classes and workshops to introduce their traditional music and musical instruments, and how to play them. — VNS
