HÀ NỘI — French electropop trio Kid Francescoli will perform with Vietnamese band Ngầm (Underground) in Hà Nội on July 1.
Kid Francescoli were founded by French artist Mathieu Hocine in 2002. He was originally born in Paris but grew up and lived in Marseille, where he started writing music.
Kid Francescoli released their first album in 2006. Two years later, they started performing internationally in Italy, Luxembourg and Germany.
For nearly two decades, Marseille's Kid Francescoli has been honing their sound with six albums and regular touring.
Kid Francescoli will perform their electropop hits, including from their latest album Lovers; With Julia and Play Me Again.
Lovers was their fifth album, released on January 31, 2020. Their most recent international tour had to be delayed due to COVID-19 pandemic, then restarted a year later with a sold-out event at the Olympia on June 17, 2021.
Their album With Julia affirmed their place in the pop universe. It left Kid Francescoli at the end of a story; one shared with the young American Julia Minkin, a singer from New York and an incarnation of their fascination with the US.
In 2017, Play Me Again heralded an unprecedented phase, both familiar and full of unexpected touches. This collection of songs is the sequel to With Julia.
Their song Moon became an online sensation after going viral on Tiktok and other social media platforms. The music video for this song has over 65 million YouTube views.
Ngầm will be guest artists at the Hà Nội concert.

"This is a very good opportunity for us to perform with international artists on the stage," said Hồ Trâm Anh of Ngầm. "We listen to Kid Francescoli and other electronic music bands to learn.
"Our music and Kid Francescoli's are both electronic so we are natural to love Kid Francescoli's music. The music is catchy and has French House characteristics."
Ngầm are a four-member electro-indie music group based in Hà Nội. They have performed in Hanoi Rock City, Goethe Institute, Tiny Music Club (Hanoi Social Club) and HUB, among others.
Ngầm's creations reveal its members' interest in electronic music and ambient music. They are heavily synth-based and centred around spatial and atmospheric compositions. It is working on its first EP which will be released this year.
The artists will perform at Hanoi Rock City at 8pm on July 1 and at IDECAF in HCM City on July 2. — VNS
