HCM CITY — A film screening of the ballet Jewels, performed by the London-based Royal Ballet in April 2017, will be held at Saturday Coffee Salon in HCM CIty's District 3 on January 18.
The three-act ballet, created for the New York City Ballet by American choreographer George Balanchine, premiered in 1967.
Jewels uses three gemstones as starting points to explore an array of musical and dance styles, each intimately connected to Balanchine’s own life and career.
Each of the three acts features the music of a different composer: Emeralds is set to the music of Gabriel Fauré, Rubies to music by Igor Stravinsky, and Diamonds to music by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. The production is performed by dancers from the Royal Ballet.
The screening is part of the Saigon Classical Music Group’s project “From Alpha to Opera” which introduces the world’s classical operas and ballets.
The screening will include both Vietnamese and English subtitles.
The programme will begin at 6:30pm at 264A Nam Kỳ Khởi Nghĩa Street in District 3. — VNS
