Phú Thọ opens Hùng Kings Temple Festival

PHÚ THỌ - The Organising Committee of the Hùng Kings’ Death Anniversary inaugurated the Hùng Kings Temple Festival and the Culture and Tourism Week of Ancestral Land 2024 on April 9 at the Hùng Kings Temple historical site in Phú Thọ Province.

Hồ Đại Dũng, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Phú Thọ Province, said that this year's festival not only allows visitors to witness activities commemorating and honouring the Hùng Kings but also to participate in various cultural, sports, and unique tourism activities.

Traditional festivals, cultural events, and sports competitions are opportunities for the descendants of the Ancestral Land and visitors to revisit the historical process, honour the cultural heritage of the nation while promoting the spirit of solidarity and integration.

These events take place from April 9 to 18 (the first to 10th day of the third lunar month) at the Hùng Kings Temple historical site (Việt Trì City) and throughout Phú Thọ Province.

The ceremony events include a ceremony commemorating the legendary ancestors of Việt Nam, Dragon Father Lạc Long Quân and Fairy Mother Âu Cơ on April 14, a ceremony offering incense to the Hùng Kings’ Death Anniversary on April 18, and a ceremony offering incense to the Hùng Kings in localities in the province from April 9 to 18.

Nguyễn Đắc Thủy, director of the provincial Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, said that this year's festival features many unique cultural activities and is aimed at introducing and promoting the potential, strengths, and tourism resources of Phú Thọ Province.

The Culture and Tourism Week of Ancestral Land 2024 includes various activities such as displaying artefacts, heritage, books, newspapers, and photo documents at the provincial library (Việt Trì City), visiting the Hùng Kings Museum, participating in the Việt Trì live music programme at Văn Lang Park, Việt Trì City, and performing folk songs.

During the event, many activities are organised to serve visitors from all over the country such as xoan folk singing at An Thái Ward, Thét communal house, Lãi Lèn shrine, Hùng Lô communal house, organising a volleyball tournament for the Hùng Kings Cup, opening a trade fair and exhibition of OCOP products, and opening a competition of making bánh chưng (square glutinous rice cake) and bánh giầy (flat white cakes) at the Hùng Kings Temple historical site.

There is also an artistic programme and high-altitude fireworks display at Văn Lang Park held on the evening of April 17. - VNS
