Cà Mau to build eco-tourism zone in U Minh Hạ National Park

CA MAU — The southernmost province of Ca Mau has announced a plan to turn 1,300ha of the U Minh Ha National Park into an eco-tourism zone by 2025.

It will have a park with a diverse range of flora and fauna, a medicinal garden and a village with board and lodging for visitors.

It will be connected with the tourist Hon Da Bac and Song Trem eco-tourism sites.

It will cost around VND1.45 trillion (US$62.4 million) of which VND106 billion will come from the province’s coffers and the rest from the private sector.

After it is completed, the national park is expected to welcome 203,000 visitors a year, generating revenues of around VND295 billion.

The park spreads over an area of ​​more than 8,500ha and straddles four communes in the districts of Tran Van Thoi and U Minh.

It is surrounded by a 25,000ha buffer zone.

Well-known for its rich fauna and flora, it is home to dozens of rare birds and animals which find a place in the Red List of the International Union for Conservation of Nature.

U Minh Ha is also one of three wetland conservation sites in the Mekong Delta recognised by UNESCO as one of three core zones of the Mui Ca Mau (Ca Mau Cape) World Biosphere Reserve. — VNS
