HBSO presents concert of movie soundtracks

HCM CITY – Vocalists and musicians at the HCM City Ballet Symphony Orchestra and Opera (HBSO) will perform at a concert featuring soundtracks from popular movies at the city Opera House on Apr 27.

Violinist Tăng Thành Nam and clarinetist Đào Nhật Quang will perform original soundtracks by American composer John Williams for Steven Spielberg’s films, including the theme from Schindlers List; Victor’s Tale from The Terminal, and Raiders March from Indiana Jones.

Williams won five Oscars, four Golden Globes, seven British Academy Film Awards and 22 Grammy Awards for his compositions. He was the first film score composer to receive a Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Film Institute in 2016.

The concert will include soundtracks from Mama Mia!, Titanic, The Godfather, Mission Impossible, House of Flying Daggers, Cinema Paradiso and Naughty Marietta.

Theme songs from Disney movies such as The Phantom of the Opera, Pirates of the Caribbean, Beauty and the Beast, and Frozen will also be featured.

The songs will be performed by vocalists Võ Hạ Trâm, Võ Thụy Ngọc Tuyền, Phạm Khánh Ngọc, Đào Mác and Trần Duy Linh.

The Saigon Ladies choir will take part in a concert with the song I Will Follow Him composed by Norman Gimbel from the movie Sister Act 1992.

Meritorious Artist Trần Vương Thạch, HBSO’s director, will lead the concert, which also feature the HBSO choir and symphony orchestra.

The concert will begin at 8pm at the Opera House at 7 Lam Sơn Square in District 1. Tickets are available at the venue’s box office. — VNS
