HCM CITY Kim Đồng Publishing House, one of Việt Nam’s leading publishing houses for children and teenagers' books, has issued a collection of 10 books portraying Vietnamese heroes at young age.
The publication celebrates the 90th anniversary of the establishment of the Hồ Chí Minh Communist Youth Union (HCYU) on March 26.
The collection consists of books, photo books and comic books featuring the career and life of revolutionaries and soldiers who devoted their youth to fight for the country’s peace, reunification, and independence during two resistance wars.
The 10 books are compiled by renowned historians, revolutionaries, veterans and journalists.
The highlight of the publication is the photo book Thời Hoa Lửa (Age of Flower and Fire) about activities of the Việt Nam Youth Volunteer Force in the 1950s.
The 144-page book includes 150 photos selected from documents kept by the HCYU Central Committee, the Vietnam News Agency, and the Việt Nam Feature Film Studio No 1.
Images captured from documentary videos produced by Nihon Denpa News of Japan are also featured in the book.
The collection also has a comic book Chuyện Kể Về Mười Cô Gái Ngã Ba Đồng Lộc (Stories about Ten Girls at Đồng Lộc T-junction), compiled by Hoài Lộc with illustration by Cloud Pillow Studio.
The book is about 10 girls who volunteered to work at the Đồng Lộc T-junction in Hà Tĩnh Province to ensure the safe operation of the transport route sending supplies to the southern front. All sacrificed their lives after a bombing.
The collection includes books such as Đại Tướng Võ Nguyên Giáp Thời Trẻ (The Youth of General Võ Nguyên Giáp) compiled by Lieutenant General Phạm Hồng Cư, former deputy director of the General Department of Politics under the Việt Nam People's Army; and Lý Tự Trọng - Sống Mãi Tên Anh (Lý Tự Trọng - Your Name is Alive Forever) by author Văn Tùng, about a young Vietnamese communist who was executed by the French in HCM City in 1931 at the age of 17.
According to the publisher, they worked with many authors and painters to make the books attractive and simple for young readers, especially primary school students.
The books are also expected to help young people understand more about the country’s history.
All 10 books are available nationwide at bookstores and e-commerce websites. VNS
