LẠNG SƠN — The new walking street in Lạng Sơn Province is attracting thousands of visitors daily with many folk games.
The Kỳ Lừa Walking Street opens from 6pm to midnight every Friday and Saturday. The area stretches 1,300m along Bắc Sơn, Lê Lai, Trần Quốc Toản and Lương Văn Tri streets and areas around Kỳ Lừa Market.
Here visitors can partake in traditional folk games under the guidance of instructors, enjoy local cuisine, and purchase local signature goods, especially agricultural produce and souvenirs.
Nông Bích Diệp, deputy chairman of Lạng Sơn People's Committee, said it attracts about 10,000 visitors per week, 2.5 times higher than initially expected.
"In the upcoming time, we will increase parking space if the number of visitors continues to increase. In addition, cultural and art performances, along with folk games, will bear specific themes to promote the cultural and traditional identity of Lạng Sơn," she said.
Kỳ Lừa Walking Street Project was planned in June. The first phase of the project will be implemented from now to October 2021.
The pedestrian area is a way to promote provincial traditions and cuisines while attracting more visitors with street performances and other services.
Located in the Nam Ninh-Lạng Sơn-Hà Nội-Hải Phòng-Quảng Ninh economic development corridor and blessed by nature with beautiful scenery and products, Lạng Sơn Province has taken advantage of these attributes to implement a plan that turns it into a tourism hub of the country.
In the past years, the provincial and local authorities have taken various measures to improve service quality and diversity with the aim to boost tourism.
Last year, the province welcomed over 3 million visitors, of which 2 million visited Lạng Sơn City. — VNS
