HA NOI — The photograph Dat Vo (The Land of Martial Art) by Hoang Bich Nhung has won first prize at the photo contest Ve Dep Viet Nam (The Charm of Viet Nam).

This is the third year the contest has been held by Nhan Dan (People) newspaper with the aim to honour excellent works showcasing Viet Nam’s beauty by Vietnamese photographers.

Trong Vong Tay Ngoai (In the Embrace of Grandma) by Nguyen Thi Le Suong was the runner up while Cung 30 Tet (Worshipping the Ancestor) by Tran Duy Tinh, Nhay Sap Mua Xuan (Dancing in the Spring) by Pham Quoc Hung and Chap Canh Uoc Mo Xanh (Empower Dreams) by Do Trong Danh were second runner-ups.

“I could see that the quality and quantity of photo entries has improved over the years. This makes the photo contest a playground for both professional and non-professional photographers. We consider it an achievement that the contest has attracted more participants and is known more widely. The themes are also more practical and close to life. We are happy that young photographers join the contest, though the number is small, they bring about a new perspective. I believe that this contest helps to push the development of photography in Viet Nam,” said juror Viet Van.

The final round of the contest features 10 photos which are the best photos of each month in 2018. Jurors are well-known figures of Viet Nam photography including Vu Huyen, photojournalist of Viet Nam News Viet Thanh, Vu Anh Tuan, journalist Viet Van and writer Huu Viet.

Launched early this year, the contest attracted nearly 8,000 photo entries by 100 professional and non-professional photographers nationwide. — VNS
