HÀ NỘI — The set of the Hollywood’s blockbuster Kong: Skull Island within the Tràng An Eco Tourism Complex in the northern province of Ninh Bình has been dismantled, to preserve the natural beauty of the area.

The decision to break down the set is following the recommendations from UNESCO.

It means that some of the boat tours in the area will no longer include the backdrop of Kong: Skull Island like before.

Phạm Thị Thanh Hường, head of the UNESCO Office in Vietnam’s Culture Department said she highly appreciated the immediate act of Tràng An management board.

“UNESCO does not discourage the creative activities, but the imaginary scenes of an aboriginal village might distort the core values of Tràng An natural heritage,” Hường said in an interview with Zing.vn.

An aboriginal village was created similar to the movie and opened to the public in April 2017. Since its opening, Kong Island received thousands of tourists yearly.

The imaginary village includes 40 tents made of bamboo which look like those of African aboriginal tribes, each of which is connected to each other by a small path paved with pieces of stones. Besides each tent are the objects for the daily activities of the tribal people like farms, earthen ovens, bamboo baskets and frames to dry food.

Kong: Skull Island, directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts, was the biggest Hollywood movie to be filmed in Việt Nam. The blockbuster was filmed in Quảng Bình, Ninh Bình, and Quảng Ninh provinces.

It grossed more than US$142 million at the box office worldwide and $6.6 million in only Việt Nam, after just two weeks of release. — VNS
