Bilingual book released boosting VN - Cuba relationship

A new book on Fidel Castro and VIệt Nam was released last Saturday in Hà Nội.

HÀ NỘI The Việt Nam - Cuba Friendship Association and Thái Bình Dương Group have launched a book on Fidel Castro and Việt Nam.

The book launch ceremony was held as a part of activities to mark the 60th anniversary of Việt Nam - Cuba diplomatic relations (December 2, 1960 - 2020).

The book entitled Fidel Castro và Việt Nam - Những Kỷ Niệm Không Quên (Fidel Castro and Việt Nam - Unforgettable Memories) has 300 pages in Vietnamese and Spanish including over 30 pieces of writing that feature the memories and feelings of Party and State leaders, diplomats, writers, journalist and soldiers on the affection of the Cuban late leader and people for Việt Nam.

"The book is a meaningful gift for Vietnamese youth and a worthy source for young Cubans to get to know more about the two nations' friendship," said Trương Thị Mai, Politburo member and head of the Party Central Committee's Commission for Mass Mobilisation at the ceremony last Saturday.

"The book will reach a large number of Vietnamese and Cuban readers, in contribution to the education of the younger generations in fostering and boosting the bilateral ties to new heights," Mai said. She is also President of the Việt Nam – Cuba Friendship Association.

Fidel Castro was Commander-in-chief of the Cuban revolution, First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba Central Committee, and President of the Council of State and Council of Ministers.

He was the first foreign leader to visit the newly-liberated area in Việt Nam’s central province of Quảng Trị in September 1973.

He was also a country leader who took the lead in international movements supporting Việt Nam’s struggle for national independence and reunification, along with national development and defence.

The book contributors included Nguyễn Đình Bin, former Politburo member of the Communist Party of Việt Nam and deputy minister of Foreign Affairs; Lieutenant General Phạm Tuân and journalist Lê Phúc Nguyên, former Editor-in-Chief of People's Army newspaper. They had the chance to meet President Fidel Castro. — VNS
