Sitting pretty: Nguyen Thuy Huong finds "unlimited inspiration" in her paintings of women and flowers. |
HCM CITY — In Nguyen Thuy Huong's paintings, Vietnamese women are quite unlike anything seen in most art galleries: they are traditional and simple despite being dynamic and sensual.
Her Mau Xanh (Green – The Colour of Life) exhibition, on show in HCM City now, show attractive young girls both in a state of animation and repose and beautiful women sitting with flowers.
The exhibition highlights include Hoa Hong (Rose), Trang Diem (The Make-up) and Thien Duong (The Paradise) which are in vivid colours like red and feature women in a variety of backgrounds.
Hoa Hong features the beauty of roses in the wind and sunshine, while Thien Duong depicts the purity of women.
The artist captures women's dreams and passions in all of these works.
She uses bright colours like green, blue, red, and orange to highlight her love for life and women.
But the beauty of her women and flowers remains accessible and matches the traditional Vietnamese concept of beauty.
"Women hold up half the sky. Women are life, art, and love," says the 46-year-old artist. "I find unlimited inspiration in women."
Her works create the impression in a viewer that women can achieve their dreams and live happily ever after.
Huong, who was born in Ha Noi, has been painting as well as teaching since graduating from the HCM City Fine Arts College in 1989.
She has taken part in several individual and group exhibitions around Viet Nam as well as Thailand, Singapore, China, France, and Germany. Her works have become popular among both local and foreign collectors.
The exhibition, on at the Applied Arts Gallery at the HCM City Fine Arts College, 5 Phan Dang Luu Street, closes on Thursday. — VNS
