| Music maestro: Tran Van Khe spent his entire life to safekeep the traditional musical heritage
of Viet Nam |
HCM CITY (VNS) — The autobiography of Professor Tran Van Khe, one of the greatest masters of Vietnamese traditional music, who passed away on June 24, will be reprinted for the sixth time on the occasion of his birthday on July 24.
Tri Viet Book Company, which published the book Nhung cau chuyen tu trai tim (Stories from the Heart) in 2010 on the occasion of the Khe's 90th birthday has sold more than 15,000 copies through five reprints.
The new edition includes updated information written during the last years of his life. Khe had for many years contributed many academic and research articles about Vietnamese culture and traditional music.
In the updated book, words he wrote during the last days of his life are included in the chapter Nhung lua chon quan trong trong cuoc doi toi (Important Choices in My Life).
In just 12,000 words, he listed the 11 most decisive choices that made his life and career.
He wrote that every person has a different life situation, job and personality, so each life is different. People with a strong will or courage can make their own decisions about their life and future.
Khe's life was an interesting journey with ups and downs. He began learning Vietnamese traditional music very early and underwent numerous challenges that prevented him from pursuing his love of music.
In the book, he recalls his childhood in Vinh Kim Village in Mekong Delta's Tien Giang Province.
Having lost both parents, he travelled and later moved to France, while promoting Vietnamese traditional music around the globe. In his later years, he returned to live in Viet Nam.— VNS
