HÀ NỘI — CNN will continue to promote Hà Nội to the world under a five-year memorandum of understanding on media co-operation the two sides signed in the Vietnamese capital yesterday.

Vice Chairman of the city’s People's Committee, Ngô Văn Quý, and senior vice president of CNN International for the Asia Pacific, Sunita Rajan, signed the MoU.

CNN will also partner Hà Nội in international events and technological and creative developments to turn it into a city of the future and integrate it with other “future cities” in the world.

The contents will be broadcast on both television and digital platforms covering the Asia Pacific, Europe, the Middle East, North America, and South Asia.

Earlier, after the city tied up with CNN for tourism promotion in 2017, the cable channel helped popularise its image through stories on various topics like culture and sports.

It has paid off handsomely, attracting great interest and positive responses from TV viewers, visitors, and domestic and foreign media agencies.

The innovative marketing campaign on CNN in 2017 and 2018 helped Hà Nội earn the Best Marketing Campaign Award at the 8th Tourism Promotion Organisation for Asia-Pacific Cities Forum held in HCM City in June last year.

According to CNN, next year the focus of the promotion will be the Formula 1 race Hà Nội will host for the first time.

Last year the city received an estimate of 26.31 million visitors, including more than six million foreigners, and earned VNĐ7.4 trillion (roughly US$316 million) in tourism revenues, according to Hà Nội Tourism Department. This years targets are about 28.5 million tourists, nearly seven million foreigners, and VNĐ103.8 trillion in revenues. — VNS
