HA NOI — Five young singers grabbed gold medals at the National Talent Singing Contest 2016 held in Ha Noi on Saturday.

The gold medallists are from the Military Culture and Arts College, HCM Conservatory of Music, Viet Nam Theatre of Contemporary Arts and Cao Bang Arts Troupe.

Eight silver medals were given to contestants from the Viet Nam National Academy of Music, Ha Noi Culture College and art troupes.

Two singers, Tran Van Quan from Hue Culture and Arts School and Pham Huong Giang from Viet Bac Culture and Arts School, won the Promising Singer title.

The contest, launched by the Department of Performing Arts under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Viet Nam Musicians Association and the Academy, seeks to discover new, young talent and encourage them to build their careers, as well as honour youngsters who have contributed to art troupes.

“The contest winners have shown their talent and creativity by performing in diverse styles,” deputy minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Vuong Duy Bien said at the awards ceremony. “They treated the audience to a party of music. I hope they will take to the music stage in the near future.”

With around 60 talented under 25-year-olds from art troupes and art colleges across the nation taking part in the event, it was also an opportunity for these youngsters to meet and share their performing experiences with each other. — VNS
