Cuba airs film on Presidents Ho, Castro

HAVANA — Cuban television presented a documentary film on Vietnamese late President Ho Chi Minh and Cuban leader Fidel Castro on Friday.

The film, entitled Convergence, retells the two leaders' lives and revolutionary cause and contributions to the struggle for national independence and the world's revolutionary movement.

Convergence was screened on the occasion of the 84th birthday of Fidel Castro (August 13), the 65th anniversary of Viet Nam 's Independence Day (September 2) and 50 years of Viet Nam-Cuba diplomatic ties.

Presidents Ho and Castro are not only the brilliant leaders of Viet Nam and Cuba but also of the world, Vietnamese Ambassador to Cuba Vu Chi Cong affirmed at the film's presentation.

He also expressed Viet Nam's gratitude for the Cuban people's solidarity and friendship over the last 50 years.

The 60-minute film was directed by Carlos Manuel and jointly produced by Mundo Latino studio under the Communist Party of Cuba's Central Committee and Viet Nam's Ministry of Information and Communications in 2009.

German students visit Bai Dinh Pagoda

Ninh Binh — One hundred outstanding Vietnamese and German students visited the Bai Dinh Pagoda, which is considered the biggest in Southeast Asia, in the northern province of Ninh Binh on Saturday.

The visit is part of an exchange programme, which aims to mark Germany Year in Viet Nam and Viet Nam Year in Germany. It is an opportunity for the two countries'young people to meet and explore their cultures and boost their solidarity, friendship and co-operation.

Mursal Ghiasi from Hessen State's Frankfurt secondary school expressed her good impressions of the country's hospitable people and beautiful landscapes.

The joint activities have created a cultural connectivity and a premise for friendship between the Vietnamese and German youths, said Vietnamese student Cao Bao Ngoc.

During the fortnight stay in the country, the students paid floral tributes to the late President Ho Chi Minh at his mausoleum, visited the Museum of Ethnology and the World Heritage site Ha Long Bay.

Under the programme, 50 Vietnamese students are expected to visit Germany in October for a similar exchange programme with German students.

Quest unearths new TV hosts

HCM CITY — Twelve talented presenters have qualified to compete in the finals of a presenter unearthing contest on HCM City Television (HTV).

The contestants will host a TV programme of their choice, talk briefly on a topic chosen by themselves and the judges, and debate with guests and the judges.

The jury will judge them on their appearance, and presenting skills.

Elimination of candidates will begin at the end of the second round until the final four are chosen in the fourth round.

The four final rounds will be held at HCM City Television Theatre on August 14, 20, 21 and 25 while the last round and the awards ceremony will be held at Hoa Binh Theatre on August 29.

All shows will be broadcast live on HTV9.

This year's contest attracted nearly 600 young people aged between 18 and 30. — VNS
