HCM CITY— The Đà Lạt Opera House, the first concert theatre in the resort city of Đà Lạt in Lâm Đồng Province, will open next week.
The theatre, located on 2,080sq.m, has three storeys with a concert hall. A modern outdoor auditorium with 850 seats is also included.
The concert hall is designed for live music events, including classical and acoustic music performances.
The building, worth more than VNĐ70 billion (US$3 million), has display areas for cultural and arts activities and exhibitions.
“We’re working to create Đà Lạt as one of the country’s most attractive tourist cities. We hope the Đà Lạt Opera House will be the place to organise quality cultural programmes targeting music and theatre that meets the taste of residents, and domestic and foreign tourists,” said Nguyễn Viết Vân, director of the city’s Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
According to Vân, the theatre will host the year’s biggest international event in Đà Lạt, called The Korean Cultural Day in Đà Lạt, this month.

Đà Lạt, the provincial capital of Lâm Đồng, is located 1,500m above sea level on the Langbian Plateau in the southern part of Central Highlands region. First discovered by the French in the 19th century, the area has since been among the country’s most popular tourist destinations.
As a locality where the economy depends heavily on tourism, the damage caused by the COVID-19 pandemic has greatly affected the socio-economic development of Đà Lạt.
In the first eight months of the year, the total number of tourists to Đà Lạt was slightly more than 2 million, down by half compared to the figure in the same period last year.
Local authorities have implemented many activities to stimulate tourism demand such as tourism promotions and discounts. Many agencies providing tourism services such as dining, accommodation, and sightseeing have offered discounts of 30 to 50 per cent compared to normal days, while many flights to Đà Lạt have also offered similar discounts.
Lâm Đồng now is considered a safe destination as there have been no cases of COVID-19 infection in recent months.
Dozens of famous singers, such as pop stars Đàm Vĩnh Hưng and Hà Anh Tuấn, have organised concerts in Đà Lạt this year.
The Đà Lạt Opera House is located at Lâm Viên Square near Xuân Hương Lake.
The theatre’s opening ceremony, starring pop idol Uyên Linh, and pianists Phi Phi and Tuấn Mạnh, is expected to begin at 8pm on December 12.— VNS
