HÀ NỘI – Rappers Đen Vâu and Double2T have the most wins with two trophies each at the 2024 Cống Hiến (Devotion) awards.

Đen Vâu took home the awards on Wednesday night, for the best Music Video (MV) and the best male singer of the year. The MV Nấu Ăn Cho Em (Cooking for You) was filmed in Mường Chà District in the northern province of Điện Biên. It garnered more than four million views within just four days of its release.

“We give many thanks to the fans,” said Đen Vâu at the award ceremony at Hà Nội Opera House. “The audience is the most important sector. Hopefully, they will continue to support children in the northern mountainous area.”

Đen Vâu and his friends have collaborated to build a boarding school and cook lunches for local ethnic pupils in Mường Chà District where the MV was filmed. Furthermore, all profits from the song have been spent on building schools and supporting disadvantage children in Điện Biên.

The MV features daily life of teachers and students who try their best to work and study in difficult situations in the remote mountainous area.

“We discussed a lot during the MV shooting because we didn’t know what we should shoot. Finally, we all agreed that we should let everything appear as truthfully as possible. That is the way Cooking for You won the audience’s heart.”

Đen Vâu has become an icon for Vietnamese rap music lovers in recent years. His real name is Nguyễn Đức Cường, and he was born in 1989 in the southern Đồng Nai Province but grew up in the northern Quảng Ninh Province.

He also expressed his gratitude to the award jury to honour him, a rapper, as the best singer of the year.

Not only Đen Vâu, Double2T also grabbed two awards New Artist and the best song of the year for the song À Lôi. As soon as it was released the song became a hit thanks to a successful combination of folk and modern music.

"I am very happy and proud to receive the award,” said Double2T. “It will encourage me to contribute more to Vietnamese music. I plan to debut my first album soon."

Double2T, real name Bùi Xuân Trường, was born in the northern province of Tuyên Quang. He is the winner of the Rap Việt’s third season last year. His songs highlight the values, qualities, customs and traditions of different ethnic groups.

Văn Mai Hương’s album Minh Tinh (Movie Star) won the best album and it also honoured Hứa Kim Tuyền as the best musician of the year. Singer Hòa Minzy took the best female singer of the year.

Musician Hứa Kim Tuyền and singer Văn Mai Hương won the best musician and the best music video of the year.

Other awards including the best producer, the best concert and the best music series of the year were given to producer DTAP, musician Đỗ Bảo and television show Vietnam Idol 2023.

This year, the award organisers presented the Impressive Devotion Award to the show Đàn Chim Việt in the celebration of the 100th birthday of National Anthem’s composer Văn Cao. VNS
