On New Year's Day, artists from the HCM City-based Phu Nhuan Drama Stage will have their debut performance in the capital with the comedy Vo Khon Day Chong Kho (Smart Wife Teaches Idiot Husband). The play gathers two leading comedians of the South, Hong Van and Duc Hai, as well as some other young artists.

Adapted from a folk tale, the comedy will be presented at the Friendship Palace.

On January 4, a stunning gala entitled Xuan Phat Tai (Prosperous Spring) will take place at the same venue. Popstar Ho Ngoc Ha will headline a music programme at the Giang Vo Exhibition Centre on January 8, while leading musicians, including guitarists Luong Xuan Thinh and Le Duc Son, and pianist Nguyen Tuan Nam, will be on the stage for a concert organised by the National Academy of Music and honouring Spanish flamenco, at the Ha Noi Opera House on January 24.

The circus performance Bi Mat Kim Tu Thap (The Secret of Pyramid), co-directed by comedy veteran Minh Vuong and circus artist Toan Thang, is expected to amaze children at the National Circus during the New Year weekend, offering little audiences a glimpse into the culture of ancient Egypt and the value of humanity, as well as stressing the importance of love for parents and helping one another.

Another special circus programme featuring the typical repertoire of three regions nationwide will be held on January 6-7. Disney cartoon characters Donald Duck and Mickey Mouse will also appear in the show.

The Viet Nam Puppetry Theatre this weekend will also stage the play Kham Pha Lau Dai Nhung Chu Roi (Discover the Puppets' Castle), targeting little audiences.
