HCM CITY  (VNS) — Zara McFarlane, the winner of the MOBO Award for the Best Jazz Act in 2014, will perform in HCM City on Sunday evening.

Entry to the performance is free.

McFarlane will perform with singers Thao Trang and Bich Ngoc, the emerging talents discovered at the Viet Nam Idol contest.

The MOBO Awards for "Music of Black Origin" were established in 1996. It's held annually in the United Kingdom to recognise artists of any ethnicity or nationality performing black music.

McFarlane is uniquely engaging, deftly combining the intricacies of jazz with a deep soulfulness, melding multiple influences from reggae to pop, folk and blues.

McFarlane's debut album, 2011's Until Tomorrow, received rave reviews and a MOBO award nomination, and heralded a major new talent in the world of British jazz.

The follow-up, 2014's If You Knew Her – also recorded for Gilles Peterson's Brownswood Recordings label – was a more ambitious collection that drew from many more influences, ranging from the deep spiritual jazz of Pharoah Sanders to dub and reggae.

Zara recently won the MOBO Award for Best Jazz Act, alongside Sam Smith, Jessie J and Beyonce, the winners in other categories.

The concert will take place at the Sen Hong outdoor stage, Zone B, 23/9 Park, District 1, HCM City. — VNS
