HA NOI — Japanese films ranging from classic masterpieces to the latest releases will be screened during the Japanese Film Festival 2010 to travel to the northern cities of Hai Phong and Ha Noi and after screenings in the southern cities of HCM and Nha Trang.

Beginning today, the films will be presented for three days in Hai Phong before moving on to Ha Noi for screenings beginning next Friday and ending November 10.

The selected films this year remind audiences of the flow of time, ranging from classics by directors Akira Kurosawa and Kenji Mizoguchi, such as Rashomon (1950) and Sansho the Bailiff (1954), which depict Japan in the Heian era (794-1192 AD) and will include the latest slapstick comedy Happy Flight (2008) by Shinobu Yaguchi and Yunagi City, Sakura Country (2007) by director Kiyoshi Sasabe, which tells the story of two generations of women connected by the Hiroshima bombing.

Director Makoto Shinkai's Five Centimetres Per Second (2007) is the only animated film being shown during the festival.

All of the films will be screened with Vietnamese voice-over.

The Japan Foundation Centre for Cultural Exchange has organised the festival in co-operation with Japanese consulate general in HCM City, BHD Co and the Hai Phong Film Distribution and Cinema Centre.

Free tickets are available at the National Cinema Centre and the Japan Foundation Centre for Cultural Exchange in Ha Noi and the Hai Phong Film Distribution and Cinema Centre at 42 Tran Phu Street in Hai Phong. — VNS
