HA NOI (VNS) — A night of jazz and Vietnamese folk music will be held by JumpforJazz at the Japan Foundation on Saturday.

A five-member band of saxophonist Nguyen Bao Long, electronic bass player Vu Ngoc Ha, pianist Nguyen Huu Vuong and percussionist Hoang Ha, besides guitarist Trinh Thy San, will perform at the concert.

The musicians will play original pieces composed by John Coltrane to pay tribute to him on his birthday in the first half of the concert. In the second half, jazz variations composed by Long will be performed.

"I love jazz and strongly believe this music, like any, is a gift to everyone," Long, the JumpforJazz music director and band leader, said.

"This is how I came up with the idea of JumpforJazz, a production company that not only aims to bring jazz to as large and diverse an audience as possible through a wide variety of concerts, but also strives to inspire and support young Vietnamese music students who love and desire to play jazz, by giving them a platform to play, learn and grow," Long said.

The concert is being held by the foundation to support and encourage young and talented Vietnamese musicians to perform and participate in a wide variety of concerts.

The night of jazz is a part of "Chronology of Jazz" series being held by the Japan Foundation.

The concert will begin at 8pm on an open stage in the courtyard at 27 Quang Trung Street. Entry is free on a first-come, first-served basis. — VNS
