ĐIỆN BIÊN The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has approved the logo to be used in all communications activities for the Điện Biên Phủ victory anniversary celebration.
The logo, by designer Tô Minh Trang, features double-stroke number 70, symbolising the arduous process of overcoming all difficulties and the determination of the Vietnamese people and soldiers to win the Điện Biên Phủ battle against French colonialism. In the centre of the number 0 is a silhouette of Vietnamese soldiers in victory.
On March 13, 1954, the Vietnam People's Army launched the first attack against the French troops’ heavily fortified base of Điện Biên Phủ in the northwestern province of Lai Châu, starting an historic 56-day campaign whose victory led to the signing of the Geneva Accords, ending the war and restoring peace in Indochina.
At 5:30pm on May 7, 1954, the “Determine to Fight, Determine to Win” flag of the Vietnamese army was raised on the top of the command bunker of French General Christian de Castries.
During the 56 days of undaunted, brave and creative fighting, the Vietnamese army and people created the Điện Biên Phủ victory that “resounded across the five continents and shook the globe”.
President Hồ Chí Minh affirmed that the Điện Biên Phủ Victory was a brilliant golden milestone in history that led to the signing of the Geneva Accords on ending the war and restoring peace in Indochina. VNS
