National television programmes honour Điện Biên Phủ Victory

HÀ NỘI - Việt Nam National Television (VTV) will air a series of programme to mark the 70th anniversary of the Điện Biên Phủ Victory. 

A live broadcast will be aired on channel 1 at 8pm on May 5 from five locations; Điện Biên Phủ Victory Monument at Hill D1 in Điện Biên Province; Ba Đình Square; Lam Sơn Square in Thanh Hóa Provine; Kon Klor Communal House in Central Highland Province of Kon Tum and Thủ Ngữ Flagpole Relic Area in HCM City.

The show will highlight the importance and the role of the victory, pay tribute to the older generation and inspire patriotism among young people. 

A theatre will be set up at Điện Biên Phủ Victory Monument with 56 stairs symbolising the "56 days and nights of tunnelling through mountains, seeking refuge in bomb shelters, enduring pouring rain and surviving on rice balls".

"Popularising the 70th celebration of Điện Biên Phủ Victory is our important mission," said Đỗ Đức Hoàng VTV's deputy-general director at the press release recently in Hà Nội. 

"We have carried out a comprehensive plan early on a large scale with key programmes which will be developed synchronously on the digital platforms."

An art show Điện Biên Phủ - Mốc Vàng Lịch Sử (Điện Biên Phủ - A Golden Milestone) will be held on May 6 with nearly 1,000 artists and amateurs. Along with popular singers, the show will feature artists who once performed on the Điện Biên Phủ battlefield.

The show will be live at 8.10pm on channel 1 at May 7 Square in Điện Biên Province and aims to honour the sacrifices made during the wartime and highlight the value of independence and freedom today, sending out a message of the desire for peace around the world.

On 7.30am on May 7, a parade featuring armed forces from national defence, public security and art troupes will be broadcast live on channel 1. 

VTV's channel 1 will broadcast a special programe Điện Biên Phủ - Nhìn Từ Nước Pháp (Điện Biên Phủ - View from The France) at 8.10pm on May 7 to bring valuable and never-before-disclosed information to the audience about Điện Biên Phủ Victory. 

The programme was made over four months in Việt Nam and France. Producers from VTV's Foreign Department researched and exploited a huge database at the French Ministry of Defence's record centre Defence Historical Service.

During the production, the producers met with witnesses from France and Việt Nam, consulted with experts, processed a huge information sources and used many images in combination with graphics in the programme. - VNS
