HCM CITY (VNS) — Nineteen professional and amateur photographers who have travelled to Nepal are displaying dozens of photos taken during their visit to raise funds for victims of the recent earthquakes in the Himalayan country.
The exhibition, which opened on Saturday at the HCM City Photography Association, has pictures of landscapes and the daily life of locals in Nepal, which will be sold to raise funds.
The organisers, VNPhoto.net, Tinhte.vn and photographer Nguyen Thanh Tung, said in a release that those who had visited Nepal could never forget the hospitality and kindness of Nepalese to foreigners or the round eyes and smiles of Nepalese children and people they met.
Nature and people presented photographers with memorable photos in the country that had the world's tallest peak, Everest.
The photographers who have donated pictures for the exhibition include Ly Hoang Long, Hoang Thach Van, Nguyen Van Thuong, and Nguyen Phuc Loc.
Selected from 400 photos they submitted, the 45 on display have been printed on ILFORD paper and put in wooden frames by ThanhTungPhoto to be sold at VND2.5 million (US$119) each.
Visitors can also make cash donations.
The money raised will be sent to Nepal through a Vietnamese living there, Nguyen Thi Kim Cuong.
A 7.9 magnitude earthquake hit the country on April 25, killing 8,400 people, injuring 16,000 others, and damaging 300,000 houses. More than 160,000 houses were destroyed causing millions to become homeless.
The situation took a turn for the worse after another 7.4 magnitude quake occurred on May 12.
Nepal is among the poorest countries in Asia and the Government has limited resources to restore infrastructure.
The photo exhibition, at 122 Suong Nguyet Anh, will close today. — VNS
