HCM CITY — ArtSign Corporation has unveiled a series of five comic books to be written by Nguyen Nhat Anh, a Vietnamese teenage icon, with the first three to be published next week.
"After six months of hard work by 25 artists, the first three stories will be released all over the country on March 15. Each will have 155 pages and cost VND17,000," ArtSign's director, Vuong Quoc Thinh, said.
The three are Bo Cau Khong Dua Thu (Homing Pigeon Doesn't Carry Messages), Bong Bong Len Troi (Bubbles Fly Into the Sky), and Nu Sinh (Schoolgirls).
Other two are expected next May, he said.
ArtSign, which has an exclusive contract with the author, has sold the publishing rights to Youth Publishing House.
"In the context of Japanese comics flooding the market, we hope the series, with its simple language will offer a new choice for young Vietnamese readers," Nguyen Minh Nhat, Youth Publishing House's director, said.
The series is targeted at high-school students and Anh fans, who span all ages. His works include 24 short stories, two novels, and poetry collections, many of which are considered profound.
His latest short story, Cho Toi Xin Mot Ve Di Tuoi Tho (Give Me a Ticket Back to Childhood), was the top seller at the fifth HCM City book fair last year, selling more than 15,000 copies. — VNS
