HCM CITY — New music productions about mothers and children have been released to celebrate the annual Buddhist holiday of Vu Lan, an event that eulogises motherly love and is held annually in the seventh month of the lunar calendar.
Two music videos, Giấc Mơ Mẹ (Mom’s Dream) and Khóc Mẹ (Love Mom), by female singers Bùi Lan Hương and Quách Mai Thi feature pop and ballad songs in praise of mothers, and show children’s gratitude to and appreciation of their mothers.
“Vu Lan festival is meant for Vietnamese people to express their gratitude and appreciation to their ancestors and parents. I hope my new MV, Giấc Mơ Mẹ, can encourage young people to love and respect their mothers,” said Hương, who worked to write the lyrics and compose the song.
Hương began her professional career after graduating from the Việt Nam National Music Academy in 2014.
She studied Jazz at the Lasalle College of the Arts in Singapore.
She has written and composed several songs, some of them are hits on online music websites and YouTube.
Giấc Mơ Mẹ was released on August 9 and has attracted nearly 30,000 views on YouTube.

Singer Thi worked with composer Đỗ Phương on her latest MV Khóc Mẹ, a production based on folk tunes and was released on August 5.
The MV tells the stories of mothers and children with the love and sacrifices of mothers to children highlighted.
“The music I used in my song, Khóc Mẹ, features true love and real stories by mothers and children, particularly orphans who lost their parent during the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020 and 2021,” said composer Phương.
“I hope my production will encourage fans, particularly youngsters, to love and care for their parents.” — VNS
