HÀ NỘI — A temple worshipping Marquis Nguyễn Hữu Cảnh (1650–1770) has been inaugurated at the National History and Culture Park in HCM City.

Secretary of the HCM City Party Committee Đinh La Thăng attended the inauguration ceremony on Monday. The project marks the 316th death anniversary of the marquis and the 40th anniversary of the city being named after President Hồ Chí Minh.

The construction of the temple covered an area of 7,443sq.m. The work started last year in Zone II of the park. The project includes a main temple, an entrance gate with three arches, stone steles, and a lake.

The new temple increases gratitude to Cảnh, who established territorial sovereignty for Việt Nam in the south in 1698, especially in the Sài Gòn - Gia Định region. Ever since then, these regions have officially been part of Việt Nam.
