HA NOI — Despite rain and cold weather, thousands of Vietnamese fans travelled to the country’s airports early this morning to support the Vietnamese team in the upcoming first leg of the AFF Suzuki Cup final against Malaysia this evening, according to statistics of tourist agencies.
In Ha Noi’s Noi Bai International Airport alone, there were three flights to Kuala Lumpur run by national carrier Vietnam Airlines (VNA).
Truong Thi Thom, head of the supporting team of tour company Esperantour, said there are around 100 fans in her group, including many living outside Ha Noi.
“My team will cheer the Vietnamese squad wholeheartedly,” said Thom. “We believe Viet Nam will have a win.”
To prepare for the upcoming game, VNA added six extra flights from Ha Noi, HCM City and Da Nang to Kuala Lumpur.
The airline has run 17 flights with more than 3,000 seats to serve fans going to Malaysia.
Earlier, VNA ran direct flights from HCM City and Ha Noi to Bacolod, the Philippines to serve fans travelling for Viet Nam’s semi-final match there. The direct route took only three and a half hours instead of the usual 20 hours.
VNA plans to use a modern Airbus A350-900 plane to bring the Vietnamese footballers from Malaysia to Ha Noi on December 12.
