HCM CITY — Famous singers and other artists will participate in a three-city music tour that kicks off tonight in the Cuu Long (Mekong) Delta city of Can Tho, aiming to highlight the contribution of Vietnamese soldiers working in the Truong Sa (Spartly Islands).
Tonight's concert at the Can Tho University will feature 50 singers, dancers and musicians as well as students from the university.
They will play revolutionary music and perform dances by famous composers and choreographers.
Pop stars Dam Vinh Hung, My Tam and Thanh Thao will join the tour, singing songs by popular composers Dinh Nghiem, Doan Nho and Pham Minh Tuan.
Contemporary dancers from the Windows Troupe will accompany them on the stage.
Concert highlights include Tuan's Bai Ca Khong Quen (Unforgettable Song), one of his favourite songs which praises the country and its soldiers.
This revolutionary song will be sung by pop singer Hung who is famous for his romantic numbers.
Young singers like H'Zina, Quoc Thien and Anh Khang will also participate in the tour that will perform next at the Tay Nguyen (Central Highlands) College in Dak Lak Province on March 24.
They will perform much-loved songs by young composers like Nguyen Hong Thuan and Duc Tri, who have made great contributions to the country's music industry.
The tour will close with a concernt in HCM City on April 13.
The show's stage director, Trung Nghia, said that through the music tour, young audiences could learn more about traditional and revolutionary music.
Soldiers will be invited to the event to share with concert goers the challenges they face in their lives and work.
The Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper, which is organising the tour in co-operation with its partners, hopes to raise money that will be used for Truong Sa soldiers and their families. — VNS
