HÀ NỘI — Two Vietnamese celebrities were arrested on Majorca island in Spain last Saturday, accused of raping a 17-year-old British girl, local media reported.
The Majorca Daily Bulletin reported that the two men, an actor and a musician aged 37 and 42, appeared in court on Tuesday.
They were released pending charges, but their passports were withdrawn. The British girl gave a statement to the court, verifying what she had told Guardia Civil officers. She and her family left Majorca later on Tuesday.
The men and the girl were staying in separate hotels in the municipality of Andratx. They met at a restaurant last Friday night, where they struck up a conversation and had drinks together.
Later, the three went to the beach, where they became intimate. They then went to the men's hotel in the southwest of the island where the sex attack occurred.
The girl told officers that after forcing her to have sex, the two men made her shower to eliminate any evidence that could incriminate them.
The girl told her aunt what happened, who alerted the police.
A Guardia Civil patrol went to the men's hotel to investigate, and the girl was examined later at Son Espases Hospital in the Majorcan capital, Palma.
The Việt Nam Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism Chief Inspector Phạm Cao Thái on Friday said it was working on the allegation and would share accurate information later.
In a move that is seen as related to the case, Việt Nam Television (VTV) has decided to pause all programmes involving musician Hồ Hoài Anh and actor Hồng Đăng, without saying why.
All VTV units have been asked to review their programmes using the two artists' images that are on air or being produced and to replace them with other programmes.
Some programmes with their involvement scheduled for the upcoming days have been removed from VTV platforms.
Hồ Hoài Anh and Hồng Đăng are said to be on a working trip to Europe. Until June 24, they had been sharing their activities in Italy and Spain through videos and photos on Facebook.
In his latest live stream posted on Facebook, musician Hồ Hoài Anh was seen with actor Hồng Đăng at a golf course in Majorca.
Phạm Xuân Tài, deputy director of the Hà Nội Department of Culture and Sports told the media in a press conference on Friday that actor Hồng Đăng was on a business trip to Europe.
The department is asking Hà Nội Drama Theatre where he is working to report on his activities abroad.
Hồ Hoài Anh, born in 1979, is a famed and loved musician in Việt Nam. He is the music director of many well-known game shows such as The Voice of Việt Nam, The Voice Kids of Việt Nam and King of Rap. He is married to famous singer Lưu Hương Giang.
Hồng Đăng was born in 1984. He has received many awards for his acting, including VTV Awards in 2016, 2018 and 2021, and the Golden Kite award in 2020.— VNS
