HCM CITY — Việt Nam has made its debut as the world’s leading heritage destination, winning the category at the World Travel Awards (WTA) held in Muscat, Oman this year.
Việt Nam is home of eight world heritage sites recognised by UNESCO, including the Phong Nha-Kẻ Bàng National Park, Mỹ Sơn Sanctuary, Hội An ancient town and the Complex of Huế Monuments in central Việt Nam, Hạ Long Bay, Tràng An Landscape Complex, Thăng Long Imperial Citadel and the Hồ Dynasty Citadel in the northern region.
The recognition of Việt Nam as the world's leading heritage destination reaffirms the country's efforts to preserve cultural heritage sites and boost its status on global tourism map, according to the WTA.
Việt Nam was also named as the world’s best golf destination at the WTA awards ceremony.
According to the Việt Nam Professional Golf Association, more than 70,000 people played golf as a leisure sport in 2018, up from 10,000 in 2009.
The country has more than 30 golf courses with regional or international standards. VNS
