HCM CITY— Fashion model Hoàng Hạnh of Nghệ An Province on Tuesday arrived in the Philippines to compete in the Miss Earth 2019 competition.

Hạnh, who is 1.76m tall and weighs 51kg, is a Taekwondo athlete. She won top prizes at several national sports competitions for young people before becoming a model.

The 27-year-old has appeared on the cover page of several women's magazines.

She has won top prizes at beauty contests and dance, music and song competitions launched by associations for students and women.

On the fanpage of Miss Earth 2019, Hạnh’s video introduces the landscapes, culture and lifestyle of her homeland, Nghệ An, to the world.

Her clip also features her messages about the environment, climate change and green lifestyle.

To prepare for the contest, Hạnh has worked with modelling instructor Rodin Gilbert of the Philippines to improve her catwalk skills, posing and charisma.

The 19th Miss Earth 2019 attracts 84 contestants from different countries and territories.

The contestants will be judged on knowledge and appearance. Their appearance will be based on physique and costumes in swimsuits, both modern and traditional.

The final round will be held at the Jesse M. Robredo Coliseum in Naga on October 26.

Last year, Nguyễn Phương Khánh, 23, of Bến Tre Province was crowned Miss Earth 2018. She is the first woman from Việt Nam to win the prize since the pageant began in 2001. — VNS
