VN revolutionary music goes to air

HCM CITY — HCM City Television will broadcast during Tet (Lunar New Year) a series on the revolutionary music that inspired the nation during the war for independence.

The four-episode Loi Nguyen Chien Thang (Oath of Victory) will feature composers and other witnesses to history, including soldiers who played a key role in the country's liberation and reunification.

It will depict the history of the country and the biographies of composers who wrote revolutionary songs between 1945 and 1975.

Many of the most illustrious revolutionary songs like Nam Bo Khang Chien (Southern Resistance War) written by Ta Thanh Son in 1945 and Bai Ca Hy Vong (Song of Hope) written by Van Ky in 1958 will be featured.

"We had the feeling that everybody shared the determination to win the war when we listened to these revolutionary songs," Co Truong Sinh said to explain the choice of title.

The serial is based on Hanh Khuc Giai Phong (Liberation Marching Songs), a book compiled over many years by celebrated composer Lu Nhat Vu and his wife, poet Le Giang.

It contains nearly 600 pieces of music composed by 92 musicians and their biographies.

Oath of Victory will be on HTV 9 at 7.25am from February 5 to February 8. Tet falls on February 3 this year.

HTV is also making the three-episode Dap Loi Song Nui (In Response to the Nation's Call), a sequel to Oath of Victory and featuring music by composers from the Cuu Long (Mekong) Delta region.

It will be broadcast later this year. — VNS
