Australian triathlete triumphs at IPPGroup Challenge Việt Nam

HÀ NỘI — Australian triathlete Steve McKenna won the IPPGroup Challenge Vietnam 2019 Triathlon in Nha Trang City in the south central coastal province of Khánh Hòa on Sunday.

McKenna triumphed in a time of 04:05.03.

Chang Tuan Chun of Chinese Taipei and Samuel Tebeck of Australia were the runners-up with times of 4:12.14 and 4:20.08, respectively.

On the women’s side, Laura Dennis was victorious with a time of 4:31.34, followed by Lisa Tyack and Emily Donker.

Meanwhile, Nguyễn Tiến Hùng of Phú Thọ Province was the best Vietnamese male athlete after clocking a time of 5:15.48.

The event featured 500 triathletes from 31 countries and territories, including 273 Vietnamese.

The race started at the 2/4 Square, where participants swam 1.9km in the sea. Afterward, they joined a 90km cycling race and then a 21km run.

According to the organisers, prizes for professional male and female winners totalled nearly VNĐ350 million (US$15,120). 

Meanwhile, the top Vietnamese male and female triathletes will receive slots to compete in the Challenge Taiwan 2020.

The competition, the second of its kind, was held by the event planning company Pulse Active and the provincial Department of Culture and Sports as part of National Tourism Year 2019 in Khánh Hòa. — VNS
