HA NOI — Thousands of runners including both Vietnamese and foreigners will participate the Hanoi International Heritage Marathon 2018 (HIHM) in Ha Noi on Sunday, October 21.
Co-organised by the Dai Bieu Nhan Dan (People’s Deputies) newspaper, the DHA Limited Company and the Vietnam Prosperity Joint-Stock Commercial Bank (VPBank), the event will attract more than 2,000 runners, of which 150 are foreigners.
The race will start from the Ly Thai To Park by Hoan Kiem Lake and pass by famous sighseeing spots in Ha Noi such as the Old Quarter, Long Bien Bridge, West Lake, Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum and several historic buildings which are part of the capital city’s history and development.
Deputy General Secretary of the Viet Nam Aethletics Federation Nguyen Manh Hung said that the event, which will be organised annually, will help not only to promote further community’s sport activities in the country, but also offer opportunity for Vietnamese and foreign runners, both professional and semi-professional athletes to exchange experiences.
“Ha Noi is a city of rich history and culture. With those advantages, the HIHM 2018, alongside its main purpose of being the Viet Nam’s leading marathon, will also help Ha Noi promote its thousand-year cultural heritage, turning the city into one of the destinations in the world that travellers must to travel to,” the sport officer said.
Tran Tuan Viet, representative of VPBank – one of the HIHM 2018’s co-organisers —said that the mission of VPBank is to create a prosperous life in its full meaning, in terms of finances, spirituality and physical health.
“Over the past years, we have tried our best to serve the community through our advanced banking services as well as through several concerts featuring world-famous artists. With the HIHM 2018, we are very happy to be a part of this meaningful event, which definitely will bring an active inspiration for everyong,” he said.
Runners will participate in four different categories – 5km, 10km, 21km and 42km. The first race will start at 4:15am. — VNS
