ĐÀ NẴNG — Kenya’s Kiptoo Edwin and Vietnamese Phạm Thị Bình claimed the men’s and women’s 42km titles in the 11th Danang International Marathon on March 24.

Kenyan Kiptoo Edwin, who started the beach track around 3am, completed his journey in two hours 37 minutes and six seconds to win the trophy in his first time in Đà Nẵng City.

Meanwhile, Phạm Thị Bình, former Southeast Asian Games gold medallist and national athletics member, clocked her time of three hours, 10 minutes and 32 seconds to win the women’s 42km track on a cool Sunday.

“It’s well organised. I enjoyed my first title in Đà Nẵng, the second in Việt Nam after I won the men’s division at the sixth Techcombank HCM City International Marathon in 2023,” Kiptoo Edwin said at the prize ceremony.

“The beach track in Đà Nẵng is very nice and well prepared. The weather in the beach city is so cool.”

Kiptoo Edwin won the race in HCM City last year with a time of two hours, 27 minutes and 31 seconds. 

In the men’s 42km, Vietnamese Huỳnh Anh Khôi and Nguyễn Đắc Hùng finished in second and third place, respectively.

Khôi did his best at the race and he followed the winner very closely with only a seven second gap.

About 700 children start the 1.5km Ronny Dash race in the 11th Danang International Marathon. 

Hùng, a member of Nghệ An Provincial runner club, claimed third place with his time of two hours, 43 minutes and 51 seconds.

In the women’s event, the national team member and SEA Games champion of walking Nguyễn Thị Thanh Phúc finished in second place with a time of three hours and 17 minutes even, beating Nguyễn Thị Ngọt, who claimed third at three hours, 26 minutes and 46 seconds.

Malaysian athletes Manimaran Sanjay got the men’s 21km title as he finished in one hour, 13 minutes and 28 seconds, while Vietnamese Thái Thị Kim Ngân won the women’s division in one hour, 30 minutes and 47 seconds.

German Hirrle Simon sprinted in 36 minutes and 10 seconds to win the men’s 10km, while Nguyễn Khánh Ly of Việt Nam grabbed the women’s track title in 41 minutes and 15 seconds.

The organising committee also presented prizes to the top three finishers in five age groups.

The event also witnessed 700 children racing with their parents in the 1.5km Ronny Dash on March 23. VNS
