HA NOI — Fifteen-year-old Nguyen Van Phuong of Binh Duong beat former national champion Hoang Thanh Trung of the People’s Police in the men’s singles group A match of the National Tennis Tournament.
The game was played on December 7 in the central province of Nghe An.
Phuong won 6-4, 4-6, 5-4. (Trung retired because of injury).
In other match of Group A, top Vietnamese tennis player Ly Hoang Nam of Binh Duong defeated Truong Giang Thanh of HCM City 6-3, 6-3.
In Group B matches, Nguyen Dac Tien of Ha Noi was defeated by Trinh Linh Giang of Binh Duong 2-6, 6(2)-7. Meanwhile, Pham Minh Tuan of Da Nang crushed Vu Artem of Binh Duong 6-2, 6-4.
On the women’s side, Phan Thi Thanh Binh of Da Nang bested Tran Thi Thanh Truc of HCM City 6-2, 6-0 in Group A.
In the men’s doubles, Nam and Phuong lost to Quoc Khanh and Quang Tri of HCM City. (Phuong retired because of exhaustion). — VNS
