HÀ NỘI – Vietnamese runner Nguyễn Thị Oanh opened the 10th day of the SEA Games with a gold medal in the women’s 5,000m on Tuesday morning.
Oanh took the top podium spot with a time of 16:45.98. Oanh’s compatriot Phạm Thị Huệ took silver medal with a time of 16:52.35. While Joida Gadot Gagnao of the hosts Philippines won bronze medal with a time of 17.52.17.
It is her second gold medal at this year’s Games. Earlier, the northern province of Bắc Giang-native won gold in the women’s 1,500m.
Standing just 1.53m tall and having survived kidney problems in the past, Oanh also brought home a bronze medal from the Asian Games and two golds from the SEA Games two years ago.
Also on the day, Oanh will compete in the women’s 3,000m hurdles.
Meanwhile, runner Bùi Văn Sự bagged another silver medal for Việt Nam in the men’s 110m hurdle race with a time of 15.08 seconds.
The second gold of the day belonged to swimmer Trần Tấn Triệu in the men’s 10km. Nguyễn Huy Hoàng took silver medal.
Earlier, Hoàng took gold medals in the men’s 400 freestyle and 1,500m freestyle.
Today, Vietnamese athletes are going for gold in the wrestling, athletics, kickboxing and jujitsu. VNS
