Uy steals the show, Hân elevates skills at national golf champs

HẢI PHÒNG — Teenager Đoàn Uy delivered an impressive performance to claim the top spot at the Việt Nam National Golf Championship on Thursday in Hải Phòng City.

Starting his round at hole 10 in the men's division, Uy faced a rocky beginning with a bogey. However, he rebounded spectacularly, notching six birdies at holes 1, 14, 17, 1, 5 and 9, and ended the second day of competition with a minus 3. After two days, the National Junior Amateur Championship winner scored 5-under 139, soaring from 5th to 1st place.

He was followed by Nguyễn Tuấn Anh with 2-under 142 and Tiền Phong Gold Championship winner Nguyễn Đức Sơn with 1-under 143.

Other athletes in the top five were Phạm Thế Nam (even par), Doãn Văn Định, Đào Văn Hoàn and Tăng Nhơn Phú (4-over 148).

Defending champion Nguyễn Nhất Long played better than his poor performance in the opening day. However with the 11-over 155 result after two days, he placed No 18 and needed hard work in the rest time to be back to the top three. 

Nguyễn Viết Gia Hân plays well to top the women's division after two days of competition.

In the women's competition, 13-year-old Nguyễn Viết Gia Hân maintained on top position with impressive form.

On Thursday, she had four birdies and two bogeys to bag a minus 2 points at the Vinpearl Hải Phòng Golf course. After two rounds, the talented player was solo on top with a 4-under 140 result.

Reigning champion Lê Chúc An shared the second position with Ngô Vĩnh Hòa as both of them scored 2-over 146.

Nguyễn Thảo My,  Đoàn Xuân Khuê Minh and Lê Thị Thanh Thuý were closed behind.

After two rounds, the organisers made a cut. Top 50 male and 12 male players will continue teeing off in the third round on Friday.

Nguyễn Phương Quỳnh was the youngest one who made the cut. The 12-year-old scored 13-over 157. VNS
