HÀ NỘI — Việt Nam's men's team on Monday defeated the Philippines 2-0 at the ongoing Asian Beach Handball Championships in the eastern port city of Weihan, China.
It was the team's third win in a row after they beat Chinese Taipei and Indonesia 2-0 in Group A over the weekend.
Teams will have a day off on Tuesday. Action will return on Wednesday when Việt Nam play Afghanistan who were defeated 2-0 by Qatar on Monday.
The men’s event features 12 teams divided into two groups. The competition began on June 15.
The women’s competition sees six teams in one group competing for glory: China, Thailand, Việt Nam, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong and Japan.
The Vietnamese squad will start their tournament on Wednesday against Chinese Taipei.
The championships will close on June 22 and serve as qualifiers for the 2019 Association of National Olympic Committees World Beach Games in the US and the 2020 International Handball Federation Men’s and Women’s Beach Handball Championships in Italy.
In the previous edition in Thailand two years ago, Qatar defeated Oman to take men’s gold and the hosts beat Việt Nam for the women’s title. — VNS
