HÀ NỘI — Vietnamese gymnasts won two medals at the FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Challenge Cup which concluded in Mersin, Turkey on Monday.
Nguyễn Đoàn Quỳnh Nam won silver medal in the floor exercise, while Vietnamese American Nguyễn Tienna Katelyn took a bronze medal in the balance beam.
Việt Nam’s two players are just 17 years old.
With this medals, Việt Nam ranked fourth out of six countries. The hosts Turkey topped the medal tally with two golds and one silver.
According to Bùi Trung Thiện, head of gymnastics section of the National Sports Administration, after key players of Việt Nam’s gymnastics including Đỗ Thị Ngân Thương and Nguyễn Thị Hà Thanh retired, now Việt Nam’s female gymnastics has a new talent generation.
Nam and Nguyễn are golden hopes of Viêt Nam in the upcoming Southeast Asian Games to be held in the Philippines later this year.
Nguyễn has become a naturalised Vietnamese citizen to take part in the international events in Việt Nam jersey. — VNS
