Vietnamese masters win golds in Eastern Asian youth chess champs

HA NOI — Viet Nam grabbed six gold medals in the second Eastern Asian Youth Chess Championships’ blitz events in Mongolia.

World champion Pham Tran Gia Phuc had no difficulty winning the U8 Open’s blitz event, winning all the nine points after nine matches.

His teammates Nguyen Thai Minh Hieu won in the U6 Open’s blitz; Tran Dang Minh Quang was the champion in the U12 Open; Tran Minh Thang triumphed in the U18 Open; Vuong Quynh Anh took the title in the U12 Girls; and Nguyen Hong Anh topped the U16 Girls.

Vietnamese young masters also grabbed seven silver and three bronze medals.

Athletes are now competing in the standard chess categories.

The championship will conclude on Sunday. — VNS
