HÀ NỘI — In a spectacular performance during the morning session of May 9 at the Cambodian SEA Games, Team Việt Nam triumphed in vovinam and secured a gold medal.
The quartet of Lâm Thị Thùy Mỵ, Lê Toàn Trung, Đoàn Hoàng Thâm and Lâm Trí Linh demonstrated their formidable skills in the women's multiple training events, where one person defends against three others with a weapon.
Their performance garnered a remarkable 454 points, earning them first place. Cambodia took second place with 440 points, while Indonesia came in third with 439 points.
The Vietnamese team's success did not stop there, as teammates Lâm Thị Lời and Nguyễn Thị Tuyết Mai secured the silver medal in the women's pair sword form, scoring an impressive 446 points.
Although they were outperformed by a Cambodian duo, who earned 451 points and claimed the gold medal, the Vietnamese pair's outstanding performance was enough to secure them the silver medal.
Myanmar came in third place with a score of 437 points, earning the bronze medal.
At the Chroy Changvar Convention Centre, Vietnamese pencak silat fighters won two bronzes.
Vũ Văn Kiên lost to Muhamad Yachser of Indonesia in the semi-final match of the men's U60kg category. His teammate Phạm Anh Tuấn was defeated by Pornteb Pholkaew from Thailand in the men's U70kg.
In tennis, Việt Nam advanced to the final of the men's team event. They beat Indonesian rivals 2-1 at the Modorok Techo National Stadium's Tennis Arena.
Việt Nam will play arch-rivals Thailand, who won 2-0 over Malaysia in the other semis, in the gold-medal match. Last Games, Việt Nam đi not finish in the top three.
Nguyễn Huy Hoàng secures a place in the men's 200m freestyle finals.
In swimming, Nguyễn Huy Hoàng topped the men's 200m freestyle and advanced to the final to vie for a medal in the evening.
In athletics, runners Trần Nhật Hoàng and Trần Đình Sơn qualified for the men's 400m final, which will be held in the late afternoon.
Hoàng won this category at the 2019 Games in Manila but lost his place last Games in Hà Nội.
Hoàng and Sơn were two members of the 4x400m mixed relay team who won their title on May 8.
Nguyễn Thị Oanh faces a fierce competition schedule with two events this afternoon.
Bad news came for multi-time winner Nguyễn Thị Oanh, as the organisers have changed the competition schedule.
Following the new one, she will have to run the 1,500m first scheduled on May 11 and the 3,000m steeplechase this afternoon, with a gap of 20 minutes between the two events.
Late runners will be ruled out.
Oanh is the reigning champion in both competitions.
