Glass-bottomed suspension bridge opens in Sa Pa

HCM CITY – A 300-metre high glass-bottomed suspension bridge opened last week in Sa Pa Town in Lào Cai Province.

The Rồng Mây Bridge near the Hoàng Liên Sơn mountain range is 2,000 metres above sea level and is the second of its kind in the country.

Visitors need to buy a ticket at the foot of the mountain and take an elevator 300 metres up to the bridge, which is 60 metres from the mountain's edge.

The Sungate Group, which built the bridge at its Rồng Mây Tourist Complex, said the bridge's glass floor could withstand the weight of 3,000 people, but the company is taking no chances and is allowing a maximum of 500 people at one time.

Admission to the elevator and bridge costs VNĐ400,000 (US$17) for adults and VNĐ200,000 (US$9) for children. The company expects 50,000 visitors a year. – VNS
