HỘI AN — The Cẩm Kim Bridge across the Thu Bồn River has been completed to connect the tourism hub of Hội An with Điện Bàn Town, Duy Xuyên District.
The district is home to Thanh Hà pottery village and eco-tour site Triêm Tây village.
The province said the two-lane bridge, with total investment of VNĐ238 billion (US$10.34 million), allows vehicles to travel at max speed of 80km per hour.
The new bridge will replace the temporary steel Cẩm Kim bridge for two-wheelers that was put into operation in 2015.
The concrete bridge would help tourists travel between Hội An and rural craft destinations on the other side of the Thu Bồn River.
Previously, local people living on the Thu Bồn river banks and tourists used the ferry service to travel from Hội An to craft villages of Kim Bồng, Bàn Thạch, Duy Vinh, Triêm Tây in Điện Bàn Town and Duy Xuyên District.
Currently, hundreds of boats, which are modified fishing vessels, carry local residents, tourists and cargo between Hội An and Duy Xuyên District, but travel on these vessels is risky during the rainy and flood season between October and April.
In 2014, the central province also put into operation the Cửa Đại Bridge with an investment of VNĐ3.4 trillion ($148 million) promoting connection between Hội An and Duy Xuyên and Thăng Bình districts. — VNS
