Hà Nội to host Cuisine Culture Festival

HA NOI — Famous specialities of Ha Noi will be featured during the Ha Noi Cuisine Culture Festival from October 5-7.

Festival goers can experience dishes that have been featured on international media such as pho (noodle soup), banh chung (square glutinous cake), spring rolls, banh mi (Vietnamese baguette) and bun cha (noodle served with grilled pork).

Besides, various street foods and other items will be introduced such as o mai (preserved fruits), com (young sticky rice), robusta coffee, cha ca (grilled hemibagrus fish seasoned with turmeric and other seasonings) and banh cuon (steamed rolled pancakes).

The festival introduces Ha Noi cuisine as food can be considered a bridge of cultural exchange and helps connect people from different cultures, according to Ngo Van Quy, vice chairman of the capital People’s Committee.

The event aims to show the capital’s cuisine culture to local and foreign visitors. Through a culinary journey, tourists can understand the lifestyle and custom of Hanoians.

The festival will take place at the Thong Nhat Park, Tran Nhan Tong Street, as part of the activities to celebrate the 64th anniversary of Ha Noi’s Liberation Day and 1,008 years of Thang Long – Ha Noi.

During the festival, there will be an exhibition area that features the elegant style of Hanoians in enjoying cuisine. In addition, visitors will be able to exchange ideas and taste Ha Noi cuisine with artisans, researchers, as well as join a number of traditional arts and games.

The number of foreign tourists to the city is estimated at 2.44 million in the first seven months of 2018, a year-on-year rise of 20.5 per cent, according to the Ha Noi Department of Tourism. — VNS
