HCM CITY — The US-based CREDO Choir of 70 members will perform in a special concert in HCM City’s Ben Thanh Theatre tomorrow.
The event, Summer Melody, is part of the choir’s Asian tour this year.
They will sing famous pieces like Wanting Memories by Ysaye M. Barnwell, Ubi Caritas by Ola Gjeilo, I Will Be a Child of Peace by Elaine Hagenberg and I’ll Be On My Way by Shawn Kirchner.
The conductor Jonathan Palant is the choir’s founder.
The choir will also perform with the choir of HCM City Ballet Symphony Orchestra & Opera (HBSO), singing Verleih uns Friden by Felix Mendelssohn and Let There Be Peace On Earth by Sy Miller and Jill Jackson.
The night will continue with the HBSO Choir, which will perform Joseph M. Martin’s Come to the Music before a work called Con Lon Ruc Ro (Bright Con Lon) by Tran Manh Hung.
The performance will be under young conductor Tran Nhat Minh.
Minh has a master’s of music in conducting at Moscow’s Tchaikovsky Conservatory. He won two top prizes for young conductors at music competitions in Russia.
He also completed a conducting course in Italy. In 2008, he returned home to live with his family and continue to inspire audiences with classical music performances.
Minh works at HCM City Ballet Symphony and Orchestra and is a guest teacher at HCM City Conservatory.
The CREDO Choir has 115 members. The choir’s founder, Palant, is also a founder of the Dallas Street Choir.
He was honoured as Creator of the Year by the American Federation of Musicians last year.
The Summer Melody concert takes place at 7.30pm at Ben Thanh Theatre, 6 Mac Dinh Chi Street, District 1.
Tickets are free at the HCM City Opera House, 7 Lam Son Square, District 1, and HCM City Supporting Centre for Students at 33 Nguyen Thi Minh Khai Street, District 1. — VNS
