HA NOI -- Viet Nam National Academy of Music’s Grand Hall will host a concert combining baroque and electronic music on October 20.

The concert will feature the Elbipolis Baroque Ensemble from Hamburg, Germany, and DJ Brezel Göring, who will present a crossover of baroque and electronic music.

It is being held under the concert series Hearing Differently, launched by Hanoi Goethe Institute to experiment with music and unusual sounds.

The Elbipolis ensemble will introduce the baroque music to local youngsters through the performance of DJ Göring, who is one of the leading artists of the German electronic music scene.

He will interpret the classic sounds of the ensemble and translate it into electronic sounds.

DJ Göring is a theologian and musician. He played in a number of bands as a teenager and gained experience in both playing and producing music, but the biggest milestone in his development was in 1992 when he met Frenchman Françoise Cactus and together they founded the duo Stereo Total.

The pair has recorded 37 albums till date and has toured around the US, South America, Australia, Japan and several European countries.

Their musical expression strives for imperfection: They only sing in languages that are not English, they play instruments that other people throw away and which cost them less than 25 euros, they flee from virtuosity and avoid conforming to contemporary mainstream music tastes.

Göring is influenced by his Stereo Total experiences even when he is working on his solo projects, which are similarly far removed from standard sounds. He has also produced theatre music, audio books and film music for Japanese and Filipino movies.

Göring has collaborated with the Elpibolis for the concert series called Baroque Lounge since 2008, in which baroque and electronic music merge together.

DJ Göring will play at the opening night of the Monsoon Music Festival on October 21 at 10pm in Ha Noi.

The Elbipolis ensemble is composed of musicians from Bremen, Hamburg and Berlin. Some of the milestones in their biography are the invitations to perform at the philharmonic orchestra of Cologne, the Potsdam Sanssouci music festival and the Rheingau music festival.

They started the concert series Baroque Lounge in 2008. The result is a fascinating dialogue that strengthens, emphasizes, alienates and ironises musical structures and rhythms. The Baroque Lounge series has been highly successful.

The Ha Noi concert is a part of the ensemble’s Southeast Asian tour. It will begin at 8pm. Free tickets can be picked up from 56 Nguyen Thai Hoc Street. -- VNS
